Make emergency and acute care dementia-accessible

Emergency departments and acute wards are designed for speed. For a person with dementia, the noise, the light and the rate of approach reliably produce distress — which is then recorded as aggression.

Dementia-accessibility standards would treat the environment as a clinical variable rather than a fixed background, and would recognise distress as communication rather than behaviour to be managed.
